Lashes and Allergies 🤧
Allergy season is in full bloom where I live and unfortunately I am a victim of seasonal allergies—sneezing, itching, watery eyes, you name it! If you or your clients are like me then eyelash extensions can be a small nuisance while looking for relief. It’s important to take care of our eyelashes while also taking care of our allergies, so I’ve come with a few tips to help you manage!
Medicate as Usual
If you use an allergy medicine—keep on using it! Over the counter medication works wonders for my symptoms so this is my number one tip. Most spring days I take an allergy pill in the morning as a preventive measure which stops my eyes/eyelashes from being irritated before my allergies even start. If you use eye drops, proceed with caution and try not to soak your lashes!
Brush Don’t Itch
Itchy eyes might just be my least favorite allergy symptom to deal with because it seems like once it starts it doesn’t stop. Itchy eyes is also your eyelash extension’s worst nightmare. It’s always best to avoid touching your extensions, especially in an itching or pulling manner, but If you have an itch that just needs to be scratched try using an eyelash wand to brush out your lashes repeatedly. It’s not a perfect solution but it can itch your lash line just enough for some relief. If not itching is not an option, rub below and well above your lash line!
Keep them Dry
Okay I take that back, I can’t decide which allergy symptom is worse for eyelash extensions! Watery eyes are also a nightmare. As an eyelash artist this is a huge reason I love the nano mister, in the case of watery eyes for whatever reason, your clients can feel assured their adhesive is cured when they leave their appointment. Post appointment, if you are experiencing watery eyes it is going to be better long term for your eyelash extensions to keep them dry, however, you want to avoid using material that can snag (cotton!) to dry them. I recommend lint free material, microfiber, or better yet a portable fan!
Avoid Extra Irritants
If we could just avoid allergies all together that’d be great, but since that’s hard to do try and pay attention to anything making your allergies worse and avoid it! Driving with your windows down, wearing the same clothes after being outside, sleeping with the windows open/using a fan, wearing makeup on your irritated eyes, etc. Try to keep your clothes, hands, face, and sheets extra clean during allergy season and use your A/C over fresh air!
CLEANSE
It seems like cleansing your eyelashes is a solution for just about everything—including dealing with allergies! If you experience allergies and aren’t cleansing every single day then just go ahead and update your routine. This will help clean off any irritants from the day and prevent build up.
