FIVE THINGS OUR BODIES WILL THANK US FOR LATER
As lash artists we use our hands, wrists and fingers all day long. In order to perform our best, we need to take care of our bodies! I am here for the self care movement! Here are a few simple things that we can do now in order to save ourselves in the long run.
1. Drink WaterThis seems to be the answer to a lot of life’s problems, but drinking water throughout the day is so important! Staying hydrated is going to help your body and brain function properly. One great tip is to bring a big water bottle with you everyday to insure you have water easily accessible.
2. Talk a WalkWhether you have one minute or one hour between clients—move! Stand up, walk around, or shake it out. While lashing we are stationary for long periods of time so whatever you do to get moving is going to be beneficial to your body. If I’m lucky enough to have a lunch break I eat while standing up to make up for sitting for long periods of time.
3. Make Your Space Ergonomically FriendlyErgonomics is the process of safely and comfortably relating workers to their workspaces. Invest in a seat that works for you, adjust your furniture to be at comfortable heights, and give your self enough space to allow for proper posture. This can also mean adjusting your clients to allow you to work at the correct angle. Your body will thank you later for working in an ergonomically friendly space.
4. Sleep TightIf you are feeling run down or like you’re just not functioning at your full potential, ask yourself if you are getting enough sleep! This can be hard because it feels like there are never enough hours in the day, but sleep is a priority. Related to getting enough sleep, is letting our eyes rest. We put a lot of pressure and strain on our eyes and they need the rest just as much as the rest of our body.
5. StretchThis is a big one because our hands take the brunt of the strain. There are so many good stretches for our hands, wrists, and fingers that we can do easily. Try adding in these stretches at least once a day and feel the difference! I found a great source for stretches with pictures and instructions HERE.
