Having worked in both sides of the industry (hair and lashes!)  I’ll be the first to admit that pushing product as a lash artist is HARD. There’s way less options for retail, our client’s eyes are closed so they can’t see what product we’re using, and if we’re being honest buying a lash shampoo is not as exciting as a new hair spray or hair mask. However, selling retail can be a great way to boost your income! And even better, selling retail takes zero extra time and little effort. Are you sold yet? Here’s a few tips and tricks to up your retail game.

Education
The easiest way to become a salesman without feeling like a pushy salesman is to educate your clients. If you educate your clients on blepharitis, lash shampoo will sell itself. If you explain that their retention can improve from using a lash shampoo and brush compared to their makeup remover— sold again. The biggest key is education!

Package Deal
A simple way to make sure your clients are using a proper lash shampoo (cough cough Lux Lash Wash) is to include a bottle with their full set. Instead of taking it as a loss, just increase your full set price! Your clients will feel well taken care of and you’ll be happy because they’ll be washing their lashes. This makes it easy to sell your client lash shampoo over and over again—in a few months ask them if their bottle is empty and if it is you have lash shampoo and if it's not empty, refresh their memory on the importance of keeping their lashes clean!

Virtual Sales
If you want to crawl out of your skin thinking about asking your clients to buy a product then take an easy first step and post about it! Share product pictures online, send videos of you using the product, or repost products and pages! It’s an easy way to spark interest and get your clients thinking. Then you can take the next step and easily say, “Did you see my latest product post—I have it available to purchase!”

Show & Tell
Show your clients what products you use personally on your lashes and what products you use as a lash artist! I watch girls all day long in the hair salon spray their client’s hair with yummy products  and their client can easily see it working and they want it too. Use that approach! Retail products that you use! As you are cleaning their lashes, let them know about the shampoo and brushes. As you are brushing their lashes, let them know about your retail wands. As you are applying sealant, let them know it’s for sale. You get the point.

Don’t Assume
A great tip is to not assume your client cannot afford retail products. It’s kind of like the idea that what’s the worst that can happen? They’ll say no. If your client doesn’t want to purchase retail then your client won’t purchase retail, but let that be their decision! Don’t lose the sale before you even try.
