HOW TO WORKOUT WITH EYELASH EXTENSIONS
Clients that live an active lifestyle frequently ask, “Can I workout with eyelash extensions?” And the answer is, yes! In fact, it’s one of the perks to having eyelash extensions—you can look good in the gym without fussing with makeup. In order to keep the lashes looking their best and coming back with good retention, there are a few recommendations to consider.
Use Protection
Some activities require a little extra protection. Use goggles while swimming, sunglasses while outdoors, and a sealant while being active. Recommend your clients use a sealant at the base of their eyelash extensions to give the lashes an extra barrier from elements, oil, and humidity.
Schedule Accordingly
A general rule of thumb is to avoid moisture 24 hours after an appointment. With the use of a nano mister, this rule can be flexible but we still want our clients to avoid high intensity activities following their appointments. Heavy sweating before the adhesive is fully cured will cause poor retention. Recommend your clients schedule their appointments after exercise or with enough time in between. For the extra active client, recommend more frequent fill appointments.
Workout with a Fresh Face
Lotions, sunscreens, and makeup mixed with sweat can cause products to “melt” off the skin and onto the lashes. Face products on top of eyelash extensions is a recipe for dirty lashes and poor retention. Recommend that clients workout with a clean face and/or carry a clean washcloth to wipe the forehead.
Don’t Touch + Wash your Hands
During a good sweat, clients may be more tempted to touch, rub, or pat their eyes. Sweaty faces and grimy gym hands are not friends of eyelash extensions. I always recommend that clients avoid touching their eyelashes but I also recommend washing their hands before touching or cleaning their eyes.
Skip the Steam Room
Eyelash adhesive needs moisture to cure, but too much moisture during the curing period will cause the lashes to fall off before curing. Recommend Skipping the steam room for the full 24 hours after an appointment. After the 24 hour period, recommend using caution with steaming as it can effect the overall retention.
Post-Workout Wash
After exercising, outdoor activities, or anything that works up a good sweat is the perfect time to give your lashes a good cleaning. We don’t want sweat, oil, or any elements sitting on our lashes so recommend your clients give their lashes a good bath post workout.
