3 REMEDIES FOR DAMAGED TWEEZERS

Our tweezers work hard for us but accidents happen, they can lose tension over time, or their sweet spots can weaken. The dreaded tweezer drop has retired even the best tweezers and if it hasn’t happened to you, it likely will one day. If you are dealing with a pair of damaged tweezers or have a graveyard of tweezers that have been long replaced—here’s a few remedies to consider!

Repair

Not all damaged tweezers are repairable, but it can be worth a try especially if your tweezers felt like an investment. There are sharpeners on the market to do it yourself, you can check with local shear sharpeners, or some tweezer specific companies offer a sharpening program. If your tweezers are still in good shape but the tension is off, look into tutorials online about loosening and tightening tweezer tension. Even if your tweezers are repairable it is always good practice to keep another pair on hand for when emergency strikes!

Recycle

If your tweezers are beyond repair you can dispose of them, but even better to recycle! This is especially true if your graveyard has become a collection. Most cities have a metal recycling plant near by or check your local pharmacies for “sharp disposal.” If you are going to throw away your tweezers in the regular trash take precautions like wrapping them or placing them in a separate container to protect the next handler.

Repurpose

Tweezers that are too damaged for lashing may not be damaged for other uses. Tweezers can be so useful to have on hand! In your lash space they are perfect for handling sticky lash strips, clogged glue bottles, or anything you don’t want to compromise your working tweezers with. Outside of lashing, think first aid kits like getting splinters out, at home for cleaning and getting sticky residue off, and in your beauty routine like plucking unwanted hairs. Keep a pair of tweezers on hand, in your bag, or in your car and I bet you find yourself using them in all sorts of ways! Another fun twist is to use them in your lash space as a display or piece of art.
