5 REMEDIES FOR THE SLOW SEASON
The reality of the new year is that it is, on average, a slow time of year for beauty service businesses. You could take this time and relish in the down time, however, if you’re running a business that is probably not realistic. So, we’ve come up with some remedies to keep busy.
NEW YEAR PROMOTIONS
The new year can be a great tool for advertising. It’s an easy way to market specials, incentives, discounts, and referral programs. “New year, new lashes!” goes with any promotion you want to run. Take the time that you’re not actively taking clients and really focus on getting clients in the door and keeping return clients happy.
DON’T RAISE PRICES
Raising prices “January 1st” seems to be the go-to move—it’s a good restart date, it’s a new tax year, and it’s easy to communicate. However, don’t give your clients a reason to leave during an already slower season. The end of the year tends to be an expensive time and a price raise at the start of the year could be the tipping point on clients staying or going. I generally wait for the warmer months to make any price adjustments!
BACK-END WORK
If you’re less busy with appointments try to continue to focus on your business during the down time. Back end work can include social media, website updates, running reports, scheduling systems, organizing inventory, and playing catch up. Putting the energy into your business may not have instant monetary results but it can help in the long game.
EDUCATION TIME
During busy seasons it can seem impossible to add more to your plate, such as continued education. It can be hard to invest in yourself during a lull, but it’s another one of those things that pays off in the end. Lash Essential offers in-person and online education! If paying for courses is not in the cards, there is so much free information to be found (check our Instagram!) or work on your skills by simply practicing.
ADD NEW SERVICES
You can supplement your income by adding additional services within your licensing. If you already offer a range of services, pay attention to which services are currently bringing in the most and run with that. There’s nothing wrong with fluctuating which services are getting your most attention.
