FOR THE CLIENT: WHEN TO WASH YOUR LASHES

We tell our clients to practice good aftercare and wash their lashes, but some clients may be left wondering exactly when to wash their lashes and how often. If we want our clients to have a successful aftercare routine It is our responsibility as the lash artist to communicate the details! So, when should clients wash their lashes? here’s the answer:

Everyday

A good standard practice is to recommend that clients wash their lashes everyday. This is a great starting point for clients and can be easily adjusted if they need more or less. This can be done morning or night to fit the clients routine.

After a Cry

On top of a regular washing schedule, I always tell my clients to wash, or at least rinse, their lashes after crying. Our tears are salty and can dry on top of the lash extensions making them crunchy and stick together.

After Swimming

Another instance that I recommend an extra rinse is after swimming. Lakes, pools, oceans—our lashes need to be cleaned of any dirty water, chlorine, or salt. This practice can also be applied to sweat or any other outdoor elements!

After Makeup

Washing our lashes everyday is the goal, but if clients find that washing less is what works for their lashes then I suggest always washing the lashes on days that makeup is worn. Face makeup or eye makeup, the ingredients are usually not extension safe. Communicate to your clients to safely wash their makeup off separately from washing their lashes!

If your Oily

Oily clients will benefit from washing their lashes everyday, but potentially two times a day! Evaluate your clients skin texture and their retention and recommend an extra wash when needed! If washing two times a day, suggest a morning and evening routine. Oil is not a friend to lash extensions so keeping the lashes oil free, clean, and dry will stretch the life of the extension.

Before their Appointment

Clean lashes before the appointment is a must! As the lash artist, you can even offer a lash wash station or a wash as an added service. When telling clients when to wash their lashes always include right before their appointment!
