AVOIDING BURNOUT 🔥
The holidays are practically here, the end of the year is coming in hot, and the hustle and bustle that is November and December is happening right now. This is one of the busiest times of year for lash artists— Clients wanting extra appointments, clients coming out of the woodwork for their special event lashes, and clients inquiring about new sets. All good things, but it can be overwhelming while also trying to enjoy the season. It’s important to avoid any burnout! We know that burnout isn’t specific to this time of year but we also know that it’s easy to put too much on your plate right now. So while we are talking about “holiday burnout” these tips can be applied all year round!
Set Boundaries
Have clear boundaries when it comes to hours, scheduling, pricing, policies, etc. It is easy for clients to bulldoze you if you do not have boundaries—it’s okay to say no! With that said, they are your rules and you are allowed to break them. I tend to make exceptions to my business hours during busy seasons or if I’m taking additional days off but it is always in my control.
Plan Ahead
You know that saying, “fail to plan, plan to fail.” Well it’s not only catchy, it’s true! Plan everything ahead that you can. Plan ahead your breaks, your lunch, and your time off! If I’m scheduling a busy day it’s crucial to my mental health and my body that I get a lunch. I can feel burnt out for the week if I have one over worked day. With the holidays coming up, it’s important to mark off any days off or business hour changes.
Enjoy!
It’s inevitable to feel burnt out if you never stop working. As important as it is to set boundaries and plan ahead so things run smoothly while working it’s equally as important to focus on the times your not working. This is especially true during this time of year! We work so hard so our clients can enjoy everything but we must also leave time for ourselves.
Self Care
Is self care the answer to everything? Probably. It is for sure the answer to avoiding burnout! I’m talking about taking care of your body with nutrition and exercise, setting time aside to be alone, evaluate your thoughts, relaxing however you need, getting enough sleep, and indulging in whatever you call self care. You will feel burnt out quick if you neglect yourself.
Motivate
Even if you are doing everything right, sticking to your boundaries, planning your time in advance, playing as much as your working, and practicing all your self care rituals, you can still feel BLAH. Sometimes we get stuck in a rut or we’re feeling like we’re on auto pilot and we need a little boost. Figure out what motivates you! Take a refresher course, try a new project, get organized, work on your back end, add new services, etc. Try to make work exciting!
