3 TRUTHS AND A LIE: FALL LASH SHED
Truth: The “Fall/Autumn” Shed is Real
It sounds like an excuse for loosing extra lashes but it’s true, our bodies naturally shed more lashes than normal during the season change and temperature drop. This happens for a few reasons: 1. Our body produces extra oil to prevent drying out which in return affects our lashes 2. Our bodies are preparing for winter just like the animals— we shed hair and lashes to allow for our “winter coat” to come in.
Truth: You Can Have Full Lashes
The lash shed is nothing to be afraid of if you know what to expect! Your clients may notice a difference in their retention for a short period of time (1-2 fills) but this is not a reason to ditch extensions all together. It means your lashes are doing what they are supposed to do! My biggest recommendation is to keep up on fills and schedule more regularly— 2 weeks instead of 3, or even 1 week to get over the hump!
Truth: You Can use a Serum with Extensions
One easy way to combat the lash shed is to add a lash growth serum to your routine. As long as your clients are keeping up with their regular fills then this is a great recommendation to get your clients through this seasonal shed.
False: The Lash Shed Happens for Everyone
It is natural for our bodies to go through this shedding period, but that doesn’t mean it happens for everyone! Some experience a light shed that won’t even be noticeable, some experience this before the fall season hits, and some experience it later closer to winter. Just like our bodies, our lashes and lash cycles are all different. It is still important to be educated about the lash shed so you can give your clients peace of mind.
