EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CYANOACRYLATE
As lash artists it’s important to know about the products we use and it’s especially important to know about the products that come in contact with our clients, such as adhesive. Cyanoacrylate is the ingredient in adhesives that creates a bond— the bonding agent. Here’s everything you need to know about cyanoacrylate!
What is Cyanoacrylate?
Like I mentioned before, it acts as the bonding agent. It is literally what makes the adhesive adhere.
Can you be Allergic?
Yes! An allergy does not always point towards cyanoacrylate it could be related to a different ingredient such as carbon pigment or even something like gel pads, but an allergy to cyanoacrylate is possible. If your client experiences a true allergy it is generally safe to assume they will be allergic to all adhesives.
What about Sensitive Adhesives?
Because cyanoacrylate is the bonding agent even sensitive and clear adhesives contain the ingredient. Be weary of any claims about adhesives without cyanoacrylate and always patch test when dealing with possible allergies.
How does it Work?
Cyanoacrylate cures rather than dries which is why we love the nano mister! Cyanoacrylate NEEDS moisture to create the chemical reaction and adhere.
What do we Need to Avoid?
Cotton! Do not use cotton swabs, paper towels, Q tips, or anything with “lint.” Because we are dealing with a chemical it can create a exothermic reaction and cause heat.
