LASHING PREGNANT CLIENTS
We always want our clients comfy and relaxed, but when it comes to pregnant clients this is even more true. I have lashed my fair share of pregnant clients and while some won’t need any adjustments at all, some will. There’s a few extra steps that are easy for us to make that will help our expecting clients be as comfortable as possible.
Extra Comfort
I always recommend a bolster for everyone but our pregnant clients will typically benefit from extra pillows. Their knees need support so they can lay towards their side, their head and neck could use extra support, and also their backs. Have pillows on hand or communicate with your clients to bring their own.
Allow for Breaks
Lying down is a lot of work for pregnant clients especially if you use a massage table or flat surface. Even with the added comfort of extra pillows it’s a lot of pressure on the body so if adding a little extra time to the appointment will allow a break or two it’s worth it! If I notice my client adjusting a lot I ask if they would like to sit up or move around. Breaks may also be needed for extra restroom breaks or a break for water or food.
Understand Changes
Our bodies go through so many changes all of the time and that is especially true for our pregnant clients. These changes will be different for every client— some may shed lashes quicker, some may hold onto lashes longer, and some may even grow more or less lashes. While it’s hard to predict it’s important to understand that these changes are possible. Don’t panic if their retention changes!
Schedule Accordingly
During pregnancy clients may want to change how often they schedule. I recommend scheduling more frequent so that the visits can be shorter but some clients may want to schedule less frequently based on their own bodies. As the lash artist I think it’s important to communicate that these adjustments can be made! Give them options!
