How to take care of your lashes this winter ❄️
The temperatures are dropping, the holidays are surrounding us, and the year is coming to a close. It’s wintertime! I bring back a winter lash care post every year because it’s just that important. We all know that taking care of our lashes is important year round, but there are a few extra things to consider as we go through the winter months. Just like our skin and hair, our lashes can change because of the colder temperatures, lower humidity levels, and exposure to central heating. It is possible that you will notice a change in lash growth cycles and retention. It’s important for us as lash artists to educate our clients about any potential lash changes they could face these next few months. Whether you fancy winter conditions or not here are a few tips to add to your winter beauty routine and share with your clients!
Moisturize—But not those lashes!
Moisturizing in the winter might seem obvious but extra moisture is key. When it comes to lashes keep those moisturizers off the lashes and double check the ingredients! You don’t want oily or waxy products even near your eyelashes extensions.
Schedule your fills
I hope that your clients are already pre booking, but keeping up on fills every 2-3 weeks will help beat any changes in the lash growth cycle and keep lashes healthy and looking good through all the holidays and cold months. Lashes tend to grow slower in the winter but grown out lashes still need to be removed.
Steam with caution
I know how nice a steam room, hot tub dip, or extra hot shower can be after an extra chilly day, and by all means, get warm! While steaming avoid touching your lashes and don’t keep your eyes in direct steam or heat. Make sure to wait the full 24 hours after your appointment to indulge, and wait until your lashes are cooled down after being exposed to heat before touching and brushing.
Don’t skip your veggies
Eating a balanced diet or even adding a vitamin regimen will help promote healthy skin and hair! Our lashes need an extra boost while we are lacking in certain vitamins and minerals during the winter.
Be Safe in the Kitchen
If you are spending extra time in the kitchen this season, or consuming more hot steamy foods then remember the basics of aftercare: open the oven with caution, avoid large amounts of steam, and don’t touch your eyes with greasy, oily, spicy, etc. hands.
Keep up your regular good work
It’s still important to keep up our normal lash maintenance while we simultaneously survive winter. No picking, pulling or rubbing, remove any makeup every single day, and keep your lashes clean with a cleanser.
Don’t Jump to Conclusions
If you or your clients are noticing a loss of eyelashes—don’t panic! Educate your clients on possible lash sheds during season changes and schedule accordingly. Also, remember that seasonal sheds are only temporary and with proper lash care your clients will be back on track in no time.
