EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT REMOVING EYELASH EXTENSIONS
As lash artists, we don’t always have removal appointments but when we do it’s crucial that we know what we’re doing. Whatever the reason for a removal, our client’s lash health is still the number one priority—So, here’s everything you need to know about removing eyelash extensions!
Let the Product do the Work
Apply the gel remover to the lash line trying to avoid too much product build up. After the product is applied—wait! You will create more work and mess if you try to swipe away the lashes before the product can do it’s job.
Use Protection
Even with a removal service I always use gel pads under the eye to protect the skin! Simply apply them like normal. The white background will also give you a good view of the lashes that you’re looking at.
Disposables are your Friend
Use lint free wipes to place a drop of remover onto to avoid cross contamination with the bottle, line free applicators to apply the product to the lash line, and a paper towel or tissue to collect the removed lashes making clean up easier. After the initial removal, always use clean applicators once the product has been removed to avoid getting product on clean eyes.
Keep Water on Hand
It’s important to make sure all the remover has been rinsed off before your clients open their eyes. I keep a small squeeze bottle of water right next to me to wet a lint free applicator and insure a proper rinse. I always recommend a wet towel on hand to use if needed.
Dry, Dry, Dry!
All the lashes have been successfully removed and rinsed, so now it’s time to dry. Dry lashes are going to burn less than wet lashes. Use a towel, dry applicators, and/or a fan. Get those lashes extra dry before opening. This tip is very important!
Sit in an Upright Position
The gel consistency is helpful because it does not run a lot but if your client is sensitive you can perform the service with your client sitting up to avoid runoff. If the service is performed with the client laying down I recommend my clients sit upright with their eyes still closed before opening.
And Repeat
If all of the lashes have not been removed with the first pass of remover it is okay to repeat the process. I swipe away any excess product and simply reapply and re-wait.
Correctly Store Remover
It is our job to always have remover on hand even if we don’t use it frequently. Check the shelf life and replace accordingly in order to keep the product working effectively. Store the remover in a place that you do not store adhesive.
Don’t be Afraid to Manually Remove
If you happen to run into problems with your remover or you have a stubborn lash or two hanging on you can use your tweezers and gently remove the extension the same way you would during a fill.
