The quarantined lash artist
We are all a part of what is happening in the world right now—EVERYONE in the world is enduring this global pandemic. Isn’t that wild? I think we can all agree that it’s a highly emotional time. What are lash artists supposed to do at a time like this? What is anyone supposed to do at a time like this? I don’t know—I’m not even close to having the answers but I have been thinking a lot about what I can do with this time for my business and for myself. So, here’s a quick list of ideas for the quarantined lash artist.
Practice Makes PerfectDon’t let your skills get rusty and your muscles loose their memory. Practice your fans, practice a new technique, or practice with a new tweezer style. While I’m working on my clients I never think about trying a new technique and I always grab by go-to tweezers but now is the perfect time to try new things!
Continuing Education Obviously, we cannot attend group trainings/in-person trainings at this time, but there are great resources online! Lash Essential offers two online refresher courses, here. Also, we share so much education and tips on our Instagram page, here! When we are all back up and running, we might as well be back and better than ever!
The Little ThingsIf you are anything like me, and have a list a mile long of things “I’ll get to” then now is the time to get to them! Go through all of your inventory, organize and label all the things, deep clean everything, finally print out after care cards, consolidate my client information, get ahead on my reports, create content, and so on. Like I said, a list a mile long! We might not be actively working as lash artists but it’s not a bad idea to dedicate time each day, or even once each week, to work related items. In the same breath, don’t get overwhelmed with finishing every little thing, make lists, but also be realistic with your goals.
Keeping up with our ClientsOur clients are a part of our lives. I mean, I see some of my clients more frequently than some of my closest friends! This might be a humble brag, but some of my clients need me! Their lash time is important to them and while we’re not keeping up with appointments we can still keep up with our clients. Consider extra engagement on social media, or even a quick text to let them know you are thinking of them. This tip also applies to our non-lashing lives—stay connected to those around you! We are literally distancing ourselves from people and that can feel lonely, so take advantage of the times and use your technology and resources to stay connected.
Self-CareLike I said, it’s a highly emotional time. I know I have experienced a lot of disappointment and stress in the last few weeks. Take time for yourself!! It feels like I am always preaching self care for a variety of reasons, but it feels extra important right now. A few things that have worked for me include getting my endorphins up by still getting a work out in, spending time outside even if it’s just to sit, staying connected to those around me like I mentioned above, finally looking at my non-lash to do list, and also allowing myself to rest.
Give Yourself GraceLastly, and maybe most importantly, give yourself grace during this time. It’s all great in theory to practice your skills everyday, spend all your time immersed in education, checking all the things off your to do list, and carrying the weight of checking in on your clients, and if do those things—great! But, if you do not take this time to be the perfect quarantined lash artist than THAT IS OKAY. This list is to help you focus and stay on track if that is what you want to do. This is a new experience and it’s okay to not know how to navigate these times. My biggest piece of advice and the thing that is helping me have peace is to take it day by day. Some days I get up and do everything I need to do, and some days I don’t get one productive thing done all day but I try my best to not let those days carry on to the whole week. We are all doing the best we can!
